Family Letter 05/25/22

May 25, 2022

Dear Imagine Schools Families, Staff and Faculty,

Yesterday was a tragic day for Robb Elementary School and the community of Uvalde, Texas. Our hearts and thoughts continue to be with the victims, families, faculty, and staff of this school as we collectively mourn this senseless loss.

In response to yesterday’s event, I would like to take a moment to reassure you that the safety of our students and staff is our highest priority. Our campus is reviewing and, where appropriate, will strengthen our school safety and security measures. If you have any questions about school security policies and procedures, please do not hesitate to contact me.

Given the extensive media coverage of this latest tragedy, we know families and faculty want to do everything possible to help children regain a sense of security and normalcy in their daily routines at school. Experts encourage us to use sensitivity and age-appropriate context in answering questions and concerns truthfully. We also encourage students to express their emotions, affirming all expressions rather than dismissing or discouraging certain feelings. Children should be affirmed that they are loved and that their responses are normal. Experts encourage all of us to be mindful of signs that a child may need additional support such as aggressiveness, withdrawal, etc.

For more information on how to speak to your children about violence, including guidelines for different age groups, please visit the National Association of School Psychologists (NASP). In order to provide parents, students or members of the public a means to anonymously report instances that might alter the overall safety of the School, the School has partnered with SaferOH. This tip line is available 24-hours a day, and anyone who has reason to believe that the safety of the School is compromised in any way may anonymously call or text to report any pertinent information to 844-SaferOH (844-723-3764).

There is nothing more important to us than providing a safe and secure learning environment for our students and staff. Please feel free to reach to me with any concerns you may have as it concerns your child. Together, we will help our students know that Imagine Great Western Academy is a place of safety for them.

Sincerely,

Kathryn Kountz
