Curriculum

Imagine Great Western Academy relies on pacing guides that follow nationally developed Common Core State Standards. Our campus focuses heavily on workshop models, thinking strategies, and growth mindset. We use the following approaches/programs to aid instruction:

English Language Arts: Teachers use a workshop format for both explicit and systematic ELA instruction that focuses on five essential areas identified by the National Reading Panel (2000). They use combinations of balanced literacy programs, systematic, and multi-sensory approaches to teach phonics and phonemic awareness. All students have the opportunity to strengthen and enrich vocabulary, fluency, and comprehension through the workshop instruction model.

Math: K-5 teachers use Heinemann’s “Math in Practice” as the basis for instruction. This curriculum is enhanced with a variety of manipulatives to place learning in the hands of the students. In grades 6-8, teachers use the curriculum “Maneuvering the Middle” which provides many opportunities for active learning. Math classes, at all levels, have their own math-focused children’s literature areas and a wide variety of manipulatives are also available to help round out students’ experiences on their math journeys.

At Imagine Great Western, we use state developed standards to teach Science and Social Studies. For more information about state and national standards, click below.

Teachers also utilize Imagine Schools Standards Based Curriculum as well as Imagine Schools Academic Framework. Imagine’s Central Ohio/Indiana region created a Pacing Guide that matches the Common Core State Standards which is used in classrooms. More information on Imagine’s Curriculum and Framework can be found on our homepage: click here

We also offer Physical Education, Art, Music, Library and Social/Emotional classes. Middle school students also participate in Health and Career readiness courses.

All classrooms are equipped with Smart TV’s and document cameras, learning manipulatives, 1:1 technology, as well as a plethora of print and digital material. As a school, we offer Title-1 services, Reading Recovery, suggested pacing guides, special education services, speech and language, and counseling and social work services.
